“I have two eggs a day, and that’s it. And cookies. But I don’t eat much because I have no teeth,” says Emma Morano, who recently turned 117 years old. Morano is from Italy, and this year, she just outlived the now previous oldest living person who died at age of 116. Morano is one of the only people in history who has lived through three centuries!

Morano has always thought that she would live a rather long life, seeing as her mother lived to be 91 years old and two of her sisters lived for a century. She has also outlived all of her eight siblings! Marano’s secret to living a long, happy life started with her unusual diet, which started right after the end of World War I. Due to her diagnosis of anemia when she was 20, her doctor instructed her to eat two eggs a day, which she has continued to do ever since. However, she does not eat meat since she fears it might cause her to contract cancer.

Morano has been living the ‘single and ready to mingle’ life since 1938 when she divorced her abusive husband after the death of her infant son. Divorce wasn’t even legal yet in Italy at the time of her divorce. Morano states that she “didn’t want to be dominated by anyone.” With that fierce attitude, she is not the type of granny you want to fool around with. Unfortunately, Morano, a former factory worker and cook, has been bed-bound for over a year now and hasn’t left her apartment in over 20 years.

People from all over the world flock to her small apartment on Lake Maggiore just to see if the “World’s Oldest Living Woman” is real, and she enjoys the attention. However, her condition is starting to fail her because Morano is alert, but very deaf, struggles to speak, and has trouble focusing while watching TV.

Many people around the world hope to see Marano break the world record for the oldest person who ever lived, which is currently held by Jeanne Calment from France, who died in 1997 at the age of 122. Marano’s family and the world are holding their breaths hoping that she lives to beat the world record, but for now, she enjoying her calm, blissful life at 117 years old.
