Top Ten Most Dangerous States

With the poverty rate of 17.9% and 643.6 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, the state of Tennessee has been ranked the most dangerous state in America according to the news website, 24/7 Wall St.

It has been reported that during 2012 violent crimes have gone up about 1% nationally.  The FBI states violent crimes count as murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.  Urban Institute senior fellow John Roman claims that the amount of violent crimes has declined in large cities such as New York, Dallas, and Washington D.C but cities such as Baltimore and Detroit continue to have high violent crime rates.  “Of the 10 states with the highest rates of violent crime, eight have lower rates of adults with bachelor’s degrees, and most of them had median income levels below the national figure in 2012,” stated Roman.

Coming in at number two out of the top 10 most dangerous states in America is Nevada, infamous for its high robbery rate, motor vehicle theft, and aggravated assault rate. However, most of the crimes committed in the state occur in Las Vegas where most tourists are. Overall, the state ranks high in lowest college and high school graduation rates.
