Since the early 1930’s, New York City during Christmastime has been a sight to see. Whether it’s the decorated store fronts, the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center, Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, or the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, there is never a dull moment.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade kicks off the holiday season, with Santa making an appearance in the final stretch of the floats. Following the parade is the tree lighting in Rockefeller Center. The tree is picked from a different town in the United States every year. This year, the tree was lit on Nov. 30 and will be left shining bright until January. Some artists that performed at the tree lighting were Tori Kelly, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, and the Rockettes.

Christmas in NYC would not be the same without the ice skating rink located in Rockefeller Center below the Christmas tree. Tourists often wait in  long lines just to have the chance to ice skate at the world-renowned rink. This ice skating rink during the holiday season has become a tourist destination for many couple, and sometimes you can find couples getting engaged there.

Another tradition is located in Bryant Park, between 5 and 6 Ave., and 40 and 42 streets. The “Winter Village” is transformed into a large ice skating rink with around 128 holiday street shops surrounding it. According to Timeout.com, there is no charge to skate. All you need is to bring your own ice skates.

The Christmas season isn’t complete without seeing the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. This dazzling show features the Rockettes. Every year, the show adds some minor, and sometimes big, changes to keep the audience surprised. Some of the features of this show are a Nutcracker segment, ice skaters, and of course, Santa.

Store fronts are also decorated during the season to look like Christmas scenes, which draws large crowds and lots of photographs. Some of the most famous window displays are Macy’s, Tiffany and Co., Sak’s 5th Ave., and Bloomingdales.

According to Urbanspacenyc.com, the Union Square Holiday Market is an exciting holiday experience. Tourists can walk through tons of shops that sell food, drinks and unique items. On certain days, live entertainment is provided, as well as arts and crafts for kids.

A trip to New York City this Christmas is the perfect way to celebrate with family, friends, and loved ones.
