Designer to the stars, first ladies, and Emmy, Tony, and Oscar nominees, Oscar de la Renta died at the age of 82. On Monday October 20, 2014. De la Renta battled cancer for eight years but he didn’t let his illness get in the way of his designing.

De la Renta began his fashion designing in 1950 in Madrid but moved to New York soon after to design for American stars, his first, Elizabeth Arden.

In the late 1960s, de la Renta started designing his own clothing line. By 2006 he had designed gowns for first ladies, debutd a fragrance, and introduced his first wearable bridal collection. More recently de la Renta designed the ivory gown Amal Alamuddin wore at her wedding to George Clooney. Just 6 weeks ago de la Renta attended his final fashion show introducing his final collection.

Many stars shared their feelings through social media including Taylor Swift. “My all-time favorite designer has passed away. Oscar, it was an honor to wear your creations and to know you. In loving memory.”

“RIP iconic designer Oscar De La Renta, who was a big part of 3 of my life’s biggest moments. Much love & peace 2 his family & all who loved him.” Gloria Estefan tweeted out.

Even Kris Jenner tweeted one of de la Renta’s most famous quotes, “‘Fashion is a trend, style lives within a person.’ –Oscar de la Renta. The world has lost another”

Jamie Lee Curtis summed up de la Renta’s work in only a few short words “I’ve worn Oscar de la Renta’s signature fragrance my whole adult life. Its like his designs and life. Classic, soft, feminine, & elegant. RIP”
