The 2014 American Music Awards left us in awe. From the captivating performances to the amazing award winners, the show was practically flawless. If you didn’t get a chance to watch it on Nov. 23, though, here is a list of the five best moments from the AMAs.

  1.   Blank Space

I’m sure you’ve heard Taylor Swift’s new song, “Blank Space.” Not only is it incredible, but her performance at the AMAs was fascinating. Swift opened up the show with the world television premiere of the song, portraying a crazy ex-girlfriend and pretending to strangle her date. She even tortured some backup dancers and lit a rose on fire.

  1.   Jamie Foxx’s Daughter Presented an Award

Jamie Foxx walked out on stage carrying his 5-year-old daughter, Annalise Bishop. The adorable little girl helped her dad present the award for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop album, and she was thrilled to announce that Iggy Azalea won the award for her album, “The New Classic.” To make the announcement even more exciting, Azalea said that it was the first award she had ever won in her entire life.

  1.   The Heart Wants What It Wants

Selena Gomez’s performance of her new song “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” made it hard to hold back tears. She even struggled to refrain from crying as she sang. Gomez stood center stage while the backdrop displayed extraordinary visuals, including majestic wings, barbed wires, and storm clouds. The song is most likely inspired by her relationship with Justin Bieber.

  1.   Swift Made History

Swift held all of our attention at the AMAs. Not only was “Blank Space” one of the best performances of the night, but she also became the first artist ever to receive the Dick Clark Award for Excellence. The Grammy Award winner was a clear choice for the honor due to the fact that she sold a record breaking number of albums and has an intense bond with fans. Presenter Diana Ross called Swift “a true superstar.” According to BBC, Swift stated, “To the fans who went out and bought over a million copies of my last three albums, what you did by going out and investing in music and albums is you’re saying you believe in the same thing I believe in – that music is valuable and that music should be consumed in albums and albums should be consumed as art and appreciated.”

  1.   One Direction Won Artist of the Year

One Direction won three times at the AMAs, and this doesn’t come as a surprise. The guys of One Direction won Favorite Band – Pop/Rock and Favorite Album – Pop/Rock for “Midnight Memories.” But the biggest award of the night, Artist of the Year, went to the band as well. Liam Payne started the speech off by thanking everybody that helped them get to where they are today, but most of all, thanked the fans. “You guys the fans, you guys are amazing. Thank you so so much.”
