Key Loss for Lancers

On September 21 during the St. John Vianney vs. Red Bank Catholic game, the Lancers suffered a heartbreaking loss; but they lost more than just the game. While star player Ishmael Hyman was trying to block he was blindsided and knocked to the turf.

Hyman, the team’s wide receiver, had the will and determination to get back up and run one more play as the punter. After the kick, Hyman said he felt pain in his right knee. “At that point I could tell something was wrong.”  Hyman sat on the sidelines for the reminder of the game.

After visiting several doctors and specialists, Ishmael was told he had torn his meniscus, the rubbery, C-shaped disc that cushions your knee. A torn meniscus prevents the knee from working properly making it difficult to run. “I played every down like I was invincible but now that something like this has come in my way, I am thankful for the times I could run with no pain.” said Hyman.

He is currently scheduled to be back on the field by Oct. 20 for the Monmouth Regional game. “I’m very eager to get back on the field.” said Hyman.  SJV has kept Hyman in their prayers for a quick recovery.
