Pros and Cons of Vick and Smith

Pros and Cons of Vick and Smith

The Quarterback battle is heating up between Michael Vick and Geno Smith for the starting job. Both QB’s have qualities that the others do not, and that will determine who will win the starting job. The odds are leaning towards Geno Smith but Michael Vick is giving him a run for his money.

A Pro for Smith is his confidence; it’s never been higher than right now. The bad thing is that his confidence could be smashed if the Jets choose Vick over him. The point of the Jets signing Vick over this offseason was to make Smith more of a competitor. It has seemed to work so far, since Smith knows he won’t be given the starting job. He understands he needs to earn it.

A con for Smith would be his experience; this is also considered a pro for Vick. Geno is still a young QB who needs to learn the game and get mentored from a veteran QB, like Vick. Michael does have the advantage in experience, considering his 12-years in the NFL as an elite QB and possibly the fastest QB to play the game. With Geno also being a mobile QB, Vick is the best mentor for the job, even if he doesn’t become the starter.

The last pro for Geno would be his energy. He is a young QB who is trying to prove he can be at least in the top 10 in the NFL. If he could focus his energy on just playing the game, he could easily throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 500. With the addition of Eric Decker, that is very possible for Geno, but first he needs to win the starting job.
