Miller Leads the Way for Stifling Bronco’s Defense

Miller Leads the Way for Stifling Broncos Defense

Dan Saker, Writer

Carolina Panthers young star Quarterback Cameron Newton prepares himself to face off against Peyton Manning and the dangerous, Denver Broncos defense led by linebacker Von Miller. By the numbers, it appeared Carolina would leave this game victorious with a -5 point spread in Las Vegas.

When the game started it was obvious that the Denver defense was a force to be reckoned with. Throughout the game, it was obvious that Newton and the Panthers could simply not get passed the Broncos’ defense, especially Miller.

Miller had himself a game with six tackles, two-and-a-half sacks and two forced fumbles. In the second quarter with the ball on the seven-yard line, Newton called hike, where he then met his demise, Miller. Miller blocks the ball from being thrown, the ball comes loose, making its way to the end zone where outside linebacker Demarcus Ware jumps on it to secure a 10-0 lead for Denver.

The Denver Broncos would go on to win the Super Bowl 24-10, proving that defense really does win championships.  Miller won the Super Bowl   MVP award, capping off what had been an incredible season for the 26-year-old linebacker.

This off-season Miller was to become a free agent but the Broncos decided to use the franchise tag on him which comes as no surprise considering his value to the team. A franchise tag is a designation a team may apply to a player scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. The tag binds the player to the team for one year if certain conditions are met.

Before becoming a free agent, Miller signed a five year/ $21,000,380. Talk throughout the league has been that Miller will be the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL once he comes to a contract deal with the Broncos. We’ll see what the future holds for Super Bowl MVP Von Miller.
