Food Truck and Rock Carnival
October 6, 2015
All eyes were on Clark, a New Jersey suburb, when it became home for a weekend to some of rock’s greatest legends. An expansive grass lot, called Oak Ridge Park, was split in two, and soon filled by thousands of people, food, and rock n’ roll.
One half of the field was packed with the vibrant lights of dozens of carnival rides and more than 40 food trucks. BMX bike riders and a wresting ring also occupied the space. On the other side, stage lights illuminated the sky throughout the night for a lineup loaded with rock veterans.
The first annual Food Truck and Rock Carnival started September 18 and ended on the 20. Opening night was dedicated to world-class tribute bands that played some classic favorites by Journey, Queen, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, and more.
Saturday’s energy was lively when Puddle of Mudd, Sevendust, Three Days Grace, and Slash and Myles Kennedy, amongst a dozen other bands, rocked through the night. This proved to only be the start of the fun when Sunday’s lineup, featuring Clutch, Anthrax, Skillet, and Stone Temple Pilots, took the stage. More than 15,000 people filled the carnival that night to witness these legends play an unforgettable show.
It is said that it’s better to go out in a blaze than to fade away, and hard-rock legends Godsmack proved that to be true. The Massachusetts natives ended the festival with anything but a whisper. The energy on stage coursed through the crowd as they played new tracks “Generation Day” and “1000hp.” Their set was kicked into full gear when they played “Keep Away” “Walk” and “Touche” which featured New Jersey’s own, John Kosco. They ended with a bang when they covered Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out” and Deep Purple’s “Highway Star” then closing with their anthem “I Stand Alone.”
The first annual Food Truck and Rock Carnival proved to be a massive hit amongst thousands. The festival was a thrilling event for adults and children alike, bringing seasoned rock fans, the next generation, and even entire families, together for a weekend filled with fun, food, and music.
