Season seven of “The Voice” premiered on Monday with Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams as new coaches. Stefani and Williams brought a great new energy to the show and an amazing chemistry.

There were 11 auditions in total throughout the night. At the end of the premiere, each coach had two contestants on their team. Unfortunately, three people went home as they did not have a chair turn around for them.

The show started out with a performance by Stefani, Williams, and veteran coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. They performed “Hella Good” by No Doubt. Afterwards, the blind auditions started at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The first artist to audition was 31-year-old Luke Wade, a soul singer from Dublin, Texas. He explained that as a teenager, he was hit in the eye with a paintball, making him permanently blind in his right eye. But that hasn’t stopped him from pursuing a career in music. He sang “That’s How Strong My Love Is” for his audition, and started the season off great. All four coaches turned their chairs within the first 20 seconds. Levine stood on his chair, not being able to hold in his excitement. The other coaches soon followed this example.

“We did it! We won The Voice,” Levine said enthusiastically. “I wish I could be higher up. I want to swing from the rafters, and I want to sing from the mountain tops.”

Williams mentioned, “I know a thing about blue-eyed soul. You could ask Justin. You could ask Robin. With Adam, you are going to get a great vocal coach. With Gwen, I mean, who wouldn’t want to be on Gwen’s team? And Blake, you know, that’s the heart and soul. But I know what to do with that voice.”

After quite a few minutes of the coaches trying to win Wade’s heart, or voice, Wade chose William’s Team.

The night continued with more spectacular auditions. Clara Hong, Bryana Salaz, Damien, Allison Bray, Elyjuh Rene, Taylor John Williams, and James David Carter were among them.

Salaz, only 16-years-old, impressed the audience and coaches by singing “Problem” by Ariana Grande. Stefani made it known to Salaz that she most likely has the most experience in the industry.

“I think I might have the longest career,” Stefani said, smiling at her fellow coaches.

Levine shot back immediately with a joke. “She’s had an incredibly long career. When I was your age, I started listening to her records, and they’re fantastic.” Levine started laughing as Stefani shook her head. Bryana chose Stefani to be her coach.

Bray had auditioned in season six but did not make it past the blind auditions. This season she seemed more prepared, and everyone but Williams turned their chairs.

Williams said, speaking to Bray, “I didn’t press my button because I really honestly feel like you’re destined to be with my buddy here.” He ended his statement by hugging Shelton.

Levine said, speaking of Shelton once again, “I think that we should do something that is going to get you in a good position to win, and bother him simultaneously.”

After the coaches’ bantering, Bray chose Shelton to be her coach.

Throughout the auditions, Williams seemed to show a natural ability to connect with contestants. He told Rene, who gave an emotional performance of “XO” by Beyoncé, “When I saw your tears come out, I knew you’d been through a lot. I don’t know your story, but I feel like I get it when I turn around and see you expressing it in everything that you sing.” Rene went with Williams as his coach.

Carter was the final artist to audition that night. He sang “Nobody Knows.” Levine turned his chair first, and the rest of the coaches followed. When the performance was over, Carter explained that he had opened for Shelton many years ago. Carter chose Shelton’s team, not surprisingly.

At the end of the night, the premiere showed that the coaches have an amazing new chemistry. This season should be one of the best yet.
