Lancers varsity softball is currently 17-0 and has outscored its opponents 166-19. They are division champions, and the Shore Conference bracket starts next week. Coach Kim Lombardi has just achieved her 500th win after defeating Marlboro. One notable player is senior Madison McDougall, the Monmouth University commit, who, in the circle, has posted a 0.31 ERA and 178 K’s. She also has a strong bat, hitting 2nd in the lineup, she has a .589 batting average with 33 hits, 8 HR, and a 1.321 slugging percentage. Also, Gabby Gonzalez, a FIU commit and the second and final senior on SJV’s roster, plays a vital role on the team. She is currently batting with a .552 average, 32 hits, 7 HR, and a 1.017 slugging percentage. Junior Mia Favato, Boston University commit, is another huge bat in the lineup. She’s batting .404, has 23 hits, 3 HR, 15 RBI’s, and a .474 slugging percentage. Another junior, Brynn Utter, is Lehigh University-bound; she leads off the lineup and has a .475 BA, 29 hits, 5 HR, and a .754 SLG. The lineup is fluid, with each batter in the lineup doing their job to help the team. On defense, multiple articles refer to the infield as a “well-oiled machine.” SJV has the top infield in the Shore, which, paired with a quick outfield, makes the Lancers a tough team to beat. Next up, SJV plays today, Friday, May 8th, they play St. Joseph by the Sea in Staten Island.
