Edited to add: On Friday, November 7, SJV Girls Volleyball defeated No.7 Trinity Hall in the South Jersey Non-Public A Tournament Quarter Finals. The girls worked together to sweep the match, winning all three sets in a row. Taylor Sofilkanich had 10 kills and 4 outstanding blocks!
Today, November 11, the girls will take on No.3 Mount St. Mary at Saint John Vianney for the semifinal round!
The crowd cheers loudly as SJV wins the fourth set, beating No.8 Pinelands Thursday night! On October 30th, the 2025 Shore Conference Girls Volleyball championship was held at Georgian Court University, where SJV and Pinelands go head-to-head, chasing for the SCT title!
While the first set had begun, it brought a lot of excitement to the court. Points going back and forth; both Pinelands and SJV were working hard to get into the lead. After a long first set, Pinelands won 25- 23, leaving SJV 0-1.
“The energy on and off the court was insane, and I just knew that my team was going to do anything to win and that we were gonna continue to push even though we were all tired. The feeling was just exciting, I’m happy that our team did not deflate after the loss of the first set and happy that everyone wanted to win,” Taylor Sofilkanich explains.
Kill after kill, Seniors Taylor Sofilkanich and Amelia Moro led the offense to a great victory. Senior libero, Gia Sergi, moved fast, creating magnificent plays, allowing the rally to continue, keeping the ball off the ground!
“I think I played really well during the Shore Conference final match. I was dialed in, supportive, and ready for anything that came my way. However, I can always do better. At times, I could have given myself some grace after I made a mistake, remembering that volleyball is a game of mistakes and that it’s not supposed to be perfect,” said Gia Sergi.
The Lancers student section continued to stay rowdy, cheering on the girls throughout the night. Ayana Warren and Genevieve Millet had contributed many of SJV’s digs and aces during the game! After three great sets, SJV takes the lead 2-1. Now the fourth set makes or breaks it for the Lancers.
“In the fourth set, I remember thinking about our game last year in the Shore Conference finals and how we were so close but came up short, and I knew I had to stay focused and fight till the very end,” says Genevieve Millet proudly.
After an insane fourth set, the Lady Lancers win 25-11, ending with a SCT title win!
“I was really excited and a little relieved when the final whistle blew at Georgian Court. Even though it was our program’s 5th SCT championship, it was the first for this group of girls, which made it all the more exciting to see them experience that moment for the first time. Coaching takes a lot of time and energy, but our girls are always worth it. They always match our effort with their own and are constantly asking to come in early or stay late for extra reps, which has made a huge difference in their team chemistry and performance on the court.” Coach Preston says with a huge smile.
