Go Pink
Every 13 minutes a life is lost to breast cancer. Women have a one in eight chance of developing breast cancer in their lifetime. However, men can also fall victim to this tragic disease. Male breast cancer is sometimes caused by inherited genes, but if they have family history of breast cancer, it can increase their risk also. Approximately 230,480 women and 2,140 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
The SJV Culinary Club started off October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month off right. With two bake sales on Monday, October, 7 and Tuesday, October, 8th the club raised $260.
Go pink for October. October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is a great way to show your support for others in need. The money raised can help pay for test tubes in a laboratory, home delivered meals for diagnosed patients, and can even help uninsured woman get mammograms.
The walk takes place in New York City on October 19th and 20th. The walk starts at Pier 84 to Randall’s Island and back again. “The more of us who walk, the more of us survive,” said Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
