White House Dance Party
March 2, 2016
President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama are no strangers to busting a move from time to time, but this week the Presidential pair were completely outdone by the twinkle-toes of a lively elderly woman.
On Sunday February 21, the White House Facebook account shared a video of D.C. resident Virginia McLaurin meeting the Obamas. McLaurin, 106, who has dreamed of visiting 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue her entire life, was invited to take part in the Black History Month festivities.
The video shows McLaurin telling President Obama, “It’s an honor” before eagerly making her way over to Mrs. Obama and exclaiming, ‘’I thought I would never get in the White House.’’
Unable to contain her enthusiasm at seeing Barack and Michelle, McLaurin held her arms in the air and skipped happily around them throughout their entire encounter.
“I am so happy,’’ McLaurin gaped, looking at the Obamas. ‘’A black president…..a black wife….and I’m here to celebrate black history.”
McLaurin constantly showed off her dance moves during their meeting. The Obamas, who between them have been seen dancing on many occasions throughout his two-term presidency, danced along with her stunned.
When asked about the secret to dancing at 106, she had an honest response: “Just keep moving!”
