Is ‘Rock n Roll’ Dead?

‘Imagine’ going back to the 50’s when Elvis Presley was the king of rock, then flash forward a few years to the 70’s when Led Zeppelin invaded the music scene now just go two more decades down the line and visualize Nirvana taking the world by storm. Soft rock, hard rock, punk rock and grunge; it changes as it goes, the genre as a whole is one respected by all music fans. The long line of rock continues to thrive, yet the legends aren’t going to be around forever. This leaves the small garage bands who long for themselves to one day be prominent in the world of rock music, will these bands be part of the next legendary rock movement or will the influential music of the past just be records to reminisce on? That is for you to decide.

Presently it is the year 2014, most historians believe ‘rock’ started in approximately 1954, and now it’s officially 60 years later since this genre has emerged. The thought of rock music discontinuing has consistently been a debate among the devotees of rock. “It’s been dead for years. Sure, we have modern day bands performing stuff that they wrote but it’s all inspired by bands like the Beatles, Led zeppelin, the Rolling Stones,” said one unknown fan on Debate.org yet in disparity to that another responded by saying, “Rock is always changing, always progressing. There are tons of bands out there still rockin’ out. As long as there are bands that do Rock n Roll, Rock will never die.”

A large amount of people place confidence on the side that rock music is dissolving seeing that without the ‘honorable’ bands in existence there will be no impact on future nearing bands. The opposing side of this opinion could be even more substantial being that a great amount of people still and hold on to the hope of rock music existing forever and that it continues to bloom.

Recently in news, Gene Simmons, bass player for the renowned rock band ‘KISS’ commented on the current being of rock. “Rock did not die of old age. It was murdered…You’re better off not even learning how to play guitar or write songs, and just singing in the shower and auditioning for The X Factor.” Harsh words, but is he right? The fact that ‘KISS’ just got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame isn’t really helping Simmons with his spirit, but another inductee of the hall of fame opposes. Dave Grohl, front man for the ‘Foo Fighters’ tweeted this on the bands account:

“Not so fast, Mr. God of Thunder…RT: @esquiremag Gene Simmons declares “rock is finally dead” http://t.co/1VTJ7y7jNM.”

For all the hard rockers out there that still keep the faith of rock music advancing should be pleased with Grohl’s optimistic outlook. A bounteous amount of people still have their love for rock and roll, a genre who they say simply cannot die and will always be remembered. Here’s to the bands of the future and hopefully the unfolding of a new preeminent rock movement.

Now that you know more about this debate, it is your decision to pick a side, is rock dead or not?
