“Say it Ain’t So”! Panic! and Weezer Collaborate

Tom Howley, Writer

Weezer is a name which most of us haven’t heard in awhile. Panic! At the Disco, however, is not. They’re both getting together and joining forces to pull as many ears as possible in their summer tour of 2016. Along their way, they’ll be buzzing right through our town of Holmdel, NJ, and making anyone within earshot amazed in just one of their 34 shows.

Weezer’s popularity peaked in the 90’s and early 2000’s as pioneers of their rebellious, energetic, and unique sound. Most of their popular singles come from their most loved albums released in 1994 and 2001, The Blue album and green respectively. Although they have continued making music, they’ve not finished adventuring with their sound, refusing to stop pioneering. They’ve come back now with The White album to prove anyone who thinks they’re incapable of achieving their old sound, is wrong.

Panic! came a long way from its formation in 2004 as a Blink-182 cover band as well. Although they’ve had many more albums and tours within the last few years, Panic! is constantly renovating their sound, their most recent albums sounding more alternative than the previous ones. This album is no different than their others in the idea that they are innovating once again.

While Panic! was in the studio recording the audio for a song on their album “Death of a Bachelor” their producer received a call from Weezer’s frontman Rivers Cuomo. With Panic!’s new song playing in the background, Rivers Cuomo asked what he was hearing. The producer answered and explained they have reached a brick wall in the progress of the song. Rivers asked him to email the file so he could revise it and in only a matter of minutes it was reassembled in a way everyone liked. This began the discussions between these two bands and eventually led to their agreement to tour together.

The tour is set to start on June 2 in Texas and ending on August 6 in California. A set list is not yet confirmed for the concerts.
