The song title, “1-800-273-8255,” is the phone number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. This song was released in partnership with the National Suicide Prevention Hotline. Throughout the song, Logic tells listeners that suicide is not the answer, and someone is always there to help.

The song begins from the point of view of an individual saying they want to take their own life as they call the suicide hotline. Logic raps lyrics such as “I feel like like I’m out of my mind/ I feel like my life ain’t mine” throughout the first hook of the song.

After this, Alessia Cara steps in to reassure the individual who wants to commit suicide that everything will be okay. Cara is meant to represent the response to the caller when she sings, “And when you stare at your reflection finally knowing who it is, I know that you’ll thank God you did.”

Khalid then begins singing as the result of the hotline call. He sings about how the pain does not hurt the same anymore, and he does not want to cry any longer. The song powerfully ends with the lyrics “I don’t even wanna die anymore.”
