“Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!” The words fans have been hearing every Saturday from the first time they tuned in.  Famous for its classic sketches and hilarious actors SNL is celebrating its 40 anniversary this year.

Last Saturday SNL sure started off the season right with their special guests Chris Pratt, who starred in the hit summer movie Guardians of the Galaxy and the one and only Ariana Grande for their musical guest. The cast included Vanessa Bayer, Aidy Bryant, Taran Killam, Kate McKinnon, Bobby Moynihan, Jay Pharoah, Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson, Beck Bennett, Michael Che, Pete Davidson, Colin Jost, Kyle Mooney, and Sasheer Zamata.

They took on comedic sketches touching on topics like the NFL scandals, a Marvel movie trailer and their classic Weekend Update. But is SNL going down? Last year’s season is considered to be one of the lowest rating seasons, maybe because the classic SNL actors left or the fans of the show just don’t find it amusing anymore.

Well that might be changing again. SNL added a new, young comedian from New York, Pete Davidson, and he stole the show. Thanks to SNL veteran Bill Hader for putting in a good word, “…I told Lorne Michaels about him, said he was really funny. And then they auditioned him for a piece, and Lorne called me to say Pete got the show. I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s wonderful!’” Davidson can now have a positive outlook for his entertainment career as SNL is known for their breakout stars such as Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Andy Samberg and many more.
