YouTube is a website that is used to view and upload videos. The term used to describe people that regularly upload videos to this site are called “YouTubers.” These YouTubers upload anywhere from once a week to every day. Creators use YouTube as a platform to get their creative work out into the world, and many of them have become extremely successful.

Zoe Sugg, known as “Zoella” online, has over six million subscribers on her YouTube channel. Subscribers are users that apply to get notifications when the channel uploads new content. Zoella is a “beauty guru,” she makes videos reviewing make-up, creating outfit look books, and just talks about her favorite products in general. Because of YouTube exposing her, Zoella was able to create her own line of make-up products.

Tyler Oakley has been uploading videos for seven years, and has close to six million subscribers. Oakley makes humorous videos and collaborations with fellow YouTubers. On occasion, Oakley makes serious videos about important topics he feels his audience should be aware of. Based on Oakley’s success online, he has been invited to many award shows to interview celebrities on the red carpet and such. He also has had the opportunity to interview influential people on his channel, like Michelle Obama!

A channel called “The ShayTards” is a made up of a Mormon family who films their life every day. (This name is a play on the word “leotard” because the father once danced around during a live show in one.) Mother, Collette Butler and Father, Shay Carl Butler film their five children, along with themselves, living their everyday over the top life. For example, every year the family films Christmas morning and the whole day, along with their strange family traditions like going to an indoor trampoline studio the day after Christmas. Their five kids range from ages ten to less than a year old. Shay Carl Butler is genuinely funny person who jokes and laughs a lot, but he also is a very hard worker and teaches his audience a good message.

Along with running this account, Butler owned a company called “Makers Studios” which was a space that different online creators could film videos and skits. Butler ran this studio in LA with other fellow YouTubers and creators. In March of 2014, Maker Studios was purchased by Disney for 500 million dollars. Keep in mind the studio was not advertised at all, just purely mentioned through the online world.
