Just in time for Halloween, American Horror Story Season Four, Freak show, is off to a great start. Starting the first episode, Monsters Among Us, with 10 million views, there is one character who sticks out; Twisty the Killer Clown. Rumor has it that Twisty was inspired by a real life serial killer clown, which sends even more chills down viewer’s spines.

Pogo the clown, also known as John Wayne Gacy of Illinois, is rumored to be the inspiration behind Twisty. He was a serial killer clown, who killed 33 men in the span of six years. How can he be related to Twisty? Well, during his jail time, he took the name as “The Killer Clown”, which most prison mates knew him as. The scariest part is; Gacy’s terrifying tale isn’t the only real life American Horror Story.

The latest Killer clown, still unidentified by police, shot Francisco Rafael Arellano Félix at a birthday party held for him in Mexico on October 18, 2013. There is even live video footage of a clown walking into the party.

In Florida in 1990, a woman opened her door to a clown with a bouquet of flowers and a balloon (kind of like Twisty with his juggling pins, Right?) Just like Troy in American Horror Story wasn’t expecting Twisty to pull out scissors, Marlene Warren didn’t expect this clown to have a gun. She was shot in the face, and this killer clown case was never solved.

Whether Twisty was an inspired character or not, he still has a face that can make anybody scream for their Mommy. Will Twisty follow in the footsteps of these real life killer clowns? Tune in on Wednesday nights on FOX to find out.
