On Monday, October 27, the SJV Girls’ Volleyball team played in the Shore Conference at Georgian Court University. With their recording being 16-1 in the regular season, the girls knew they could defeat two tough teams, Marlboro and Barnegat.

“We knew that playing Barnegat and Marlboro were going to be tough because they have very good players like us but we worked hard every day at practice and in the weight room to be able to beat both of the teams we played,” said Laura Matsen. The starters were Amanda Caparelli, Megan McGrory, Ashley Csordos, Megan Furch, Anne Mangonelli, Gaby Merced, Laura Matsen, Kim Evans, and Alyssa Reardon. For seniors, Amanda Caparelli and Megan McGrory, this will be their last season. As key players of the team, the team realizes it will be a challenge to replace them. “It will be hard to find replacements for these players but we have a team full of very skilled girls who can play the positions of the seniors that are leaving,” said Matsen.

Now, with a 20-1 record, the team will be moving on to states. With all the success the team has seen, Matsen says, “We are all dedicated to the sport and worked hard every day in practice and during the off season to get to where we are today.”

“Attitude, energy, and passion for the game” is the formula for all the wins this season. Come support our Girls’ Volleyball team on November 5 while they play Mount Saint Mary!
