In the Shoes of Nora Honrath

In the past four years three St. John Vianney cross country runners have taken the Non-Public A Cross Country Championship title. Adding to her Non-Public A and B state title in spring track last year and Junior Division champ at the Battle at Ocean County Park, Nora Honrath, the 2015 SJV winner said, “It’s not something that I thought about going into the race, my goal was to just go out and run my best.”

Honrath’s freshman year she had the honor of running with some of the shore’s best runners such as Tara Connelly and Courtney Thompson. “I feel very fortunate to have learned so much from them; not only did they show me what it takes to be a dedicated athlete and become close teammates, but we also became close friends and still keep in touch,” said Honrath. “ I am honored to join them in holding that championship, and proud that I am able to run for SJV.”

Coming from parents who both ran in high school as well as college plus sisters who were high school runners, Honrath has fast shoes to fill. “I was always exposed to running. I started in 7th grade, but it wasn’t until I got to high school that I really began to train and compete competitively.” said Honrath. Not only does Honrath compete in cross country but adds to the noteworthy track team in the spring accompanied by Katie DiFrancesco and Boston College commit Monica Heil.

This 3200 meter, 1600 meter, and 800 meter star doesn’t expect her career to end in high school though. “I am definitely looking forward to running in college. I’ve been looking at a few schools along the east coast, but I still have a lot more to see before I begin to make up my mind,” she said.

Honrath still has her 2015-16 indoor and outdoor track season ahead of her plus her senior year season to add to her list of titles.
