The annual Saint John Vianney Back to School Dance was held on September 20 in the Main Gym. The fun-filled soiree included a karaoke contest, music, and a live stream of the Giants game.

Hurricane Productions, whose owners are SJV alums, provided catchy tunes for the dance while students performed their own renditions in a karaoke contest. “Students performed songs by artists Taylor Swift, Jay-Z, Justin Beiber, and more” said Mrs. Langdon, Director of Student Activities at SJV.  To ensure sports fans were also able to enjoy the evening, a live stream of the Giants game that was on that evening was projected while students danced and socialized.

Typically, the Back to School Dance is only held for the freshmen class. However, about 50-75 students from the sophomore, junior and senior classes attended the dance this year as well. “We had a wonderful turnout,” said Mrs. Langdon.

Freshmen Mentors, upperclassmen who are part of the Freshmen Mentor Program, were also in attendance. Freshmen Mentors act as a welcoming committee to the freshmen class and help make the students feel comfortable in their new school surrounding. “I like being able to be here for her if she has any questions or problems about her classes or school in general”, said senior, Grace Heidelberger, about her mentee.

“It was the best Back to School Night Dance SJV has thrown in a long time,” said Hurricane Productions.  It was clear this year’s Back to School Dance was a big hit, where SJV students were able to enjoy a night of dancing, singing and socializing with friends, old and new.
