Pep Rally Raises Spirits Before Big Game

On September 14, the Saint John Vianney community gathered together to kick off the fall sports season with a spirited pep rally.  The annual fall sports pep rally began with the national anthem sung by the school choir. The SJV band rallied the crowd with their music while the cheerleaders lined up and out came the athletics.

Just hours before the first home football game against Rumson Fair Haven, the football players, along with other fall teams, paraded through the SJV gym proudly representing their sport. Teams included boys’ & girls’ soccer, field hockey, girls’ tennis and volleyball, and boys’ and girls’ cross country. To tie the event together, both the cheerleaders and the dance team performed their upbeat routines for the crowd.

Two seniors, Ashley Grenger and Stephanie Roddy, who are part of the cross country team and winter/ spring track teams shared what their experience has been like as SJV athletics. “I like our team. It feels like a mini family. We are always cheering for each other,” said Grenger. Roddy shared that her favorite part of being a team member has been bonding like a family over the past four years. “I’m still friends with those who were seniors when I was a freshman.”

The high energy of the pep rally carried over into that night. Dressed in gold and black, the SJV crowd was ready to cheer on the football players in their first home game of the season.
