At St. John Vianney, the annual Spirit Week is full of energy and excitement. With all the fun activities SJV provides during this week, students have a blast year after year.
Spirit Week at SJV is a special week during the school year when students have the opportunity to bond with their classmates while showing their school pride. Each day throughout the week has a different theme. Last year the theme days included Mix & Match, Twins, Sports, and my personal favorite, Dress in the Color of your Grade. One day of the week, each grade is assigned a specific color to wear. Students can either buy their shirts or make their own to add a touch of creativity. This day gives each class the opportunity to show their class spirit and prove they have the most.
A new addition for this school year is Red Ribbon day. National Family Partnership, a national leader in drug prevention education provides drug awareness by sponsoring the annual National Red Ribbon Celebration, which happens to be the same week as spirit week this year.
“Students look forward to Spirit Week more and more each year,” said Mrs. Langdon, the SJV Activities Director. Announced by Langdon, the themes the class float themes are cities in the United States. Seniors have New York, juniors – Los Angeles, sophomores – Honolulu, and freshmen – Vegas. The homecoming dance will be black light themed.
Each class works together on their floats throughout the week. They are presented on Friday during lunch and the SJV student body and faculty vote for the best float. These votes are announced during half time at the homecoming football game after the floats go around the field for everyone to see one last time. On October 26th, SJV will play Holmdel High School.
Spirit Week is one of the many school activities that Saint John Vianney has to offer to the students. “It is important to get involved in your school activities,” said Mrs. Langdon “It makes the high school experience more memorable.” Spirit Week ends October 26th.
