Anthony Ferraro receives Outstanding Wrestler Award

St. John Vianney senior Anthony Ferraro won the Outstanding Wrestler award during the Elizabeth Minuteman Tournament on Saturday January 5, 2013. Wrestling at 160 pounds, Anthony pinned a senior from Linden High School in the first round of the match.

Ferraro has been wrestling since 7th grade and his wrestling abilities have been exceptional ever since. On January 12, 2012 he broke 100 career wins, which makes him the third wrestler in SJV history to win 100 matches. Ferraro’s abilities are as remarkable as his confidence. “I intend to break 100 tomorrow,” said Ferraro the day before the match.

Aside from being an outstanding wrestler, Ferraro displays other signs of significance. What makes Ferraro’s story so compelling is his, what most people would call, disadvantage. He is legally blind. His other senses become severely heightened and allow him to perform remarkable activities. His ability to learn things quickly is also a reason why he is capable of extraordinary feats.

The team as a whole finished third in the entire tournament. Junior Terrence Davis also placed first, wrestling at 145 pounds. Senior Matt Caracappa (132) finished 2nd, Junior Paul Piccione (106) and Nick Landi (120) finished in 3rd Place while Matt Falco (170) finished in 4th place.
