President Carter Comes To Help

Union Beach, NJ, is a small town that was completely devastated by Super storm Sandy with 270 homes destroyed. Former President, Jimmy Carter heard about all the loss and pain that this town was going through and felt compelled to help. On October 12th, 2013, Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, are coming to Union Beach to help rebuild from the Storm.

Coming up is the one year anniversary of Super Storm Sandy, and it is also the 30th anniversary of The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter work project is a partnership with Habitat for Humanity to give a week of their time every year to help build and repair homes. Now being their 30th anniversary , the Carter’s have decided to volunteer where help is crucially needed. Along with helping out Union Beach, the Carter’s will also be helping with housing projects in Oakland, San Jose, Denver, and New York City. The Carter’s are said to be building two new homes and repairing 13 damaged ones in Union Beach.

“I think it’s a big boost,” said Mayor Paul J Smith of Union Beach. Citizens who are getting help from the president are excited as well. “It’s nice to know that the Carter’s heard about the help needed in a small town, it shows they do care,” reports a resident, “I hope I get to meet him.”

Carter will arrive to Union Beach, NJ with his wife and habitat for humanity on October 12th, 2013, ready to help.
