American Medicine Chest Challenge

American Medicine Chest Challenge

All across America, cabinets are filled with prescription medication that is expired or unused. Recently, the Center for Disease Control Prevention has declared an epidemic of prescription drug abuse, where people are overdosing and dying on the medication found lying around in their own medicine cabinets. The American Medicine Chest Challenge, or AMCC, is a national public health initiative determined to help stop prescription drug abuse by holding safe disposal sites for all medication throughout the nation.

AMCC is challenging families to take the five step challenge to prevent their family members from abusing these drugs. “The American Medicine Chest Challenge can help save the lives of our children,” said Angelo M. Valente, CEO of AMCC.

“By participating in AMCC’s 5 Step Challenge, families throughout the country are safeguarding their home from the potential misuse and abuse of medicine. The 5-steps include taking inventory of your medicine, securing your medicine chest, taking medicine only as prescribed, safely disposing of unused, unwanted, and expired medicine, and most importantly, talk to your children about the dangers of prescription drugs.”

November 9th is a day for Prescription drug abuse awareness, but AMCC collects expired and unused drugs all year. You can use the website below to find a location nearest to you to safely dispose of unused and expired drugs.
