Private space transport company Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, or SpaceX, had a successful shuttle launch from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Cape Canaveral, Florida. After two delays on November 25 and 28, SpaceX finally launched their Falcon 9 rocket into orbit on December 3. The two delays were due to technical glitches which have now been resolved.

The Falcon 9 rocket will be carrying the SES-8 satellite from SES World Skies, which is intended to provide telecommunications services for Southern Asia and the Pacific region. Tuesday’s launch marks SES World Skies’ first satellite launch.

SpaceX was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk with the intentions of providing affordable space exhibitions. Since then, the company has successfully launched countless rockets into orbit and has even landed a $1.6 billion contract with NASA for 12 cargo missions to the International Space Station.

SpaceX’s aims for affordable launches has been described as “a game-changer” by SES chief technology officer Martin Halliwell on November 24 during a teleconference before SpaceX’s first launch attempt. SpaceX currently advertises standard Falcon 9 rocket launches for $56.7 million and have over 20 commercial launches scheduled from now until 2017.
