Local Efforts to Support Ukraine

On Sunday, Mar. 13, St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church of Old Bridge led various efforts to support the Ukraine crisis.

A breakfast was held in the gym alongside a bake sale where proceeds were raised to donate to Ukraine’s people who had lost their homes.

Both events were hosted by the St. Thomas Knights of Columbus Council #4815, an organization made of involved members of the congregation. The group works to raise funds for charity through fundraisers and hall rentals.

In total, the Knights of Columbus was able to raise over $4000 in proceeds on Sunday. Many people who could not stay for breakfast or look around the bake sale left a donation to show support.

Working with local groups within your community can assist in raising awareness for a cause and bringing change.

Currently, within SJV, the campus ministry is hosting a collection working with a local Ukrainian Church to bring essential items to the victims of the war until Friday, Apr. 1.

Sleeping bags, over-the-counter medication, flashlights and batteries, first aid kits, paper plates, and plastic cutlery, and toiletries are items that are encouraged as donations.

Students can donate these items at a drop box located in front of the main office.
