Life is filled with many unexpected surprises, but it’s possible that none rival the sheer value of LaQuedra Edward’s accidental California Lottery win. Last November, at a Vons convenience store in Tarzana, Los Angeles, Edwards had $40 in hand. She planned to buy her usual weekly lottery tickets until a random stranger’s action changed her life.

Edwards recalled that “some rude person” bumped into her and continued to walk out of the store. The fateful collision, however, caused Edwards to accidentally push the button for an expensive $30 scratch-off ticket. A disgruntled Edwards accepted the ticket and spent her remaining $10 on cheaper tickets. She retreated to her car, scratched the unintended $30 ticket, and discovered a $10 million win!

In a statement from the California Lottery, Edwards joked “I didn’t really believe it at first, but I got on the 405 freeway and kept looking down at [the ticket], and I almost crashed my car.”

According to the California Lottery, the odds of winning the $10 million jackpot are one in three million, with only six total equivalent prizes.

Edwards plans to buy a house and start a nonprofit organization with her winnings. With an accidental $10 million prize, Edwards’ life is sure to transform!
