On January 27, 2025, Starbuck’s New Policy went into place. Starbucks made a policy to write positive things on cups and added free refills for hot or iced brewed coffee or tea during the same visit. Another rule was added: A condiment bar containing creamer, milk, and various sweeteners. This helps customers not disrupt the barista so that their coffee tastes can taste better to their liking. This is convenient for people and Starbucks as it helps prioritize customers who want to sit and enjoy their coffee or use the bathroom. The Starbucks rules indicate you can only use the bathroom if you purchase an item during your visit to Starbucks. This is convenient for Starbucks as it will attract more customers along the way with all these new rules added. The CEO of Starbucks, Brian Niccol, has a strategy called “Back to Starbucks”. He sees writing on cups as an addition to customer service. Giving positive affirmations, even small ones, can brighten one’s day. Starbucks has instructed employees to write simple and personalized messages and affirmations. Those small words, such as “Hello Again” for regular customers or jokes, can be simple. Even a little design can go a long way. My classmate, Kelly Henderson, has said, “I like the writing/drawings on the cups because it makes my day, and it’s fun to compare the different designs on each of my friend’s cups to mine.” I am sure Kelly is not the only person that feels this way. It is nice knowing someone wrote or drew on a cup for you. However, it is a policy, and they still did it, but it makes it seem thoughtful. Depending on Starbucks’s per se, they also write on food bags. As far as I remember, Starbucks had written on my cake pop bag. This is an outstanding policy, as it markets Starbucks as thoughtful and encourages people to stop by.
