As September rolled around once more, new freshmen go through the same process that so many have gone through before. It is certainly not easy to go to a new school, especially when it’s a Catholic high school. There are tons of rules that have never applied before. To those who came from public schools, it’s completely different, so it is certainly a lot to take in. The comfort is that every single freshman is going through the same thing. Some are so excited, and others are more nervous than ever before. High school, to many, is where you study and learn things that will get you a career, but right now, for the class of 2030, it’s just about making friends and learning the ropes.
The way people adjust to high school is different for everyone. Tiffany Yoo shared that “The biggest difference is that there are so many more people and such a huge community compared to middle school.” Yoo came from a Catholic school, and she told me that most rules and codes were the same. But high school’s presence was much bigger than at any school she had attended before. Robert McBurnie came from a public middle school and had a very different take on how high school is different. “The uniforms and IDs are something we never had to do before.” Uniforms are one thing, but it is probably extra difficult to remember to bring an ID to school every day if that was never given a thought when getting ready for school before. I’m sure every single freshman has their own opinion on what is the hardest or best part of high school, but as the weeks begin to fly by, we will all forget that we only just got here.
Overall, for the class of 2030, we still have so much ahead of us. We will all find our rhythm together and keep moving forward. Even though this is just the start, we have to make it as fun as possible. Even if it’s different or hard, because we will be seniors before we know it, and new freshmen will eventually take our place.
