Welcome back to school Lancers! With school starting back up, things can get a little confusing. Especially when you also have to try to balance a sport with it all, too! Along with the quizzes and homework come a bunch of practice and games. If you are finding yourself lost this semester, don’t worry and just follow these few tips below!
First, you should try to keep ahead of your work. If your teacher posts something for the week, take any free time you have to try and complete it, so you don’t have to try and rush to get it done after a several-hour practice. Also, make sure to check your schedule for the upcoming week to see when you can get your work done and study for upcoming quizzes or tests.
Speaking of which, if you have practice the day before a test or quiz, be sure to study beforehand so you don’t have to study as much when you get home at 8 p.m. after being out all day. Begin studying three days in advance, about half an hour each day, for quizzes. For the test, study for about 45 minutes each day for 5 days. Take any time you have to study or complete work. Whether that be bus rides to games or the car ride home.
Some students share how they balance their sports and studies.
Julia Monteleone, a freshman field hockey player, states, “ I have sports right after school, so the rest of the day I get my homework done, and if I’m super busy, then I just find time during the day to get it done.”
Mrs. Seaman, Dance Coach, says, “You need to manage your time well and make sure you’re getting enough rest and eat well.” Seaman continues, “Try not to have distractions like scrolling through your phone, but also take time to hang out with friends and have dinner with your family.”
Olivia Esquenazi, a junior field hockey player, states, “ During the sports season, I balance my schoolwork and sports by using my study halls and free time to the best of my ability. I try to complete my homework during school hours, since I have very little time outside of school.” Esquenazi continues, “I also have a habit of staying up late if my work isn’t complete before the school day ends, since I have no other time to do it. Most importantly, though, I make sure to take advantage of my teacher’s office hours, since the more I understand the material from class, the faster I can complete my work once it is assigned.”
Make sure to stay on top of your work and have a great school year, Lancers!
