On Saturday, October 19 the New York Yankees advanced to their 41 World Series for the first time in 15 years after they beat the Cleveland Guardians in 5 games. After a game-tying home run by Giancarlo Stanton in the 6 inning the Yankees were able to force extra innings. In the 10 innings with a score of 2-2, Juan Soto hit a three-run go-ahead home run to give the Yankees a five-two lead. In the bottom of the 10 inning, Yankees pitcher Luke Weaver was going up against the top of the Guardians lineup and looking to shut them out to send the Yankees to the World Series. Weaver was able to get three outs, which sent the Yankees to the World Series, where they will match up against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Between the Dodgers and Yankees, they combine for 34 World Series Titles and 62 World Series appearances. This matchup is one of the most historic and highly anticipated matchups as both teams were 1st in their respective league. The Yankees’ key players in this series are Giancarlo Stanton who won the American League Championship Series(ALCS) MVP, Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, and Gerrit Cole. Aaron Judge is known to not perform that well in the playoffs, but many fans believe that if he can start playing the way he can in the regular season, the Yankees will easily win the World Series. The Yankees had a slightly worse record than the Dodgers which means the Dodgers will have home field advantage against the Yankees. It is believed that if the Yankees can win at least one game in Los Angeles, they have a good chance of winning the entire World Series, as their home field gives them a large advantage over their opponents. The fans at Yankee Stadium create a hostile environment that disrupts the other team and gives life to the Yankee lineup. Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty will be matching up against Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole on Friday, October 25 in game one of the 2024 World Series.
