On December 3rd, 2025, the New York Mets Baseball team signed a three year deal with Devin Williams. After these three years, Williams will make $51 million.
For the background on Williams, he did not attend college and was drafted right after high school. He attended Hazelwood West High School in Hazelwood, Missouri, where he played baseball and was planning to graduate in 2013. He was committed to the University of Missouri to play college baseball, but ended up signing a professional contract with the Milwaukee Brewers after they selected him in the second round of the 2013 MLB draft. He started in the rookie level and played for the Arizona League Brewers. In his first year, Williams pitched in thirteen games, started six games and pitched around thirty four innings. He also had a fastball that ranged from 94 to 96 miles per hour. Six years later, in 2019, Williams was on the Milwaukee Brewers in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was on that team until 2024 and achieved multiple awards, including Rookie of the Year, Reliever of the Year, and MLB All Star. After five seasons with the Brewers, Williams spent the 2025 season with the New York Yankees. He was their closer, but he struggled throughout the season.
At the end of the 2025 season, Williams became a free agent and signed a three year deal with the New York Mets, joining their relief pitching staff. Relief pitchers are players who pitch in the later innings of a game. He is also expected to boost their bullpen, a place where all the relief pitchers warm up, which the Mets struggled with in the previous season. One of the relief pitchers from the Mets’ last season was Edwin Diaz. He is currently a free agent, so if he leaves the Mets, Williams has the potential to take his spot. If he stays with the Mets, the team could have a strong duo of relievers. In all, Devin Williams is now a player for the New York Mets and is an asset to the team.
