Super Bowl LVII

The epic final game of the NFL season is Superbowl LVII, which takes place on Feb. 12, 2023. Weather won’t be that big of an impact due to State Farm Stadium having a roof. The Eagles and the Chiefs are a good matchup in this year’s game. Both teams have high-powered offenses. The coach of the Chiefs, Andy Reid, used to coach the Eagles so that is set to be an interesting return to his old team. The current coach of the Eagles, Nick Sirianni, is looking to win the Super Bowl in his second season as head coach. He was also an assistant for the Chiefs in 2012 as a wide receivers coach. The main difference maker for the Eagles may be the guy in the middle, Fletcher Cox, who is a load at 340 pounds and is tough to guard. The best way for the Chiefs to stop him is to double him, or the center could get destroyed. Another difference in this game is the health of Chiefs Quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, who has been suffering a high ankle sprain for a couple of weeks now. During the AFC Championship, it was reaggravated, but he was still able to stay in the game. Being that the Super Bowl is still a few days away, we could assume that he is close to 100 percent and could take his team to the top of the mountain again.

Both teams got here through a similar way. They both had first-round byes and they just had to win two playoff games to reach the Super Bowl. The chiefs defeated both the Jaguars and the Bengals to get there. The Eagles beat the Giants and the 49ers to reach on the NFC side. The Eagles were definitely the more dominant team throughout the playoffs with blowouts in both the Divisional and the Championship game. The Chiefs had a hard fought win against the Jaguars and a last second field goal to slide by the Bengals.

The spread on this Super Bowl is 1.5 in favor of the Eagles which means sports betters are thinking it will be a nailbiter. Both quarterbacks featured are Jalen Hurts for the Eagles and Patrick Mahomes for the Chiefs. Something to keep in mind during the game is that Jalen Hurts is capable of running outside the pocket and is very mobile. Mahomes is not as mobile, but switches his arm angles to fake out the defense. This is also the first matchup between two black quarterbacks in NFL history. Patrick Mahomes has appeared in 2 Super Bowls, winning 1. And the Eagles’ Jalen Hurts has never appeared in the big game, even after his third season. With all that being said it sures looks like this could be a really close game with many momentum shifts throughout.
