Black Friday – Black Thanksgiving?

Julia, Writer

As soon as you put that fork down from the last bite of pumpkin pie, the madness begins, for some.

Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year, no longer begins on Friday. In the past, the clock struck midnight, the stores opened, and people opened their wallets. But now the spending starts before Friday, on Thanksgiving.

The malls in America now open on Thursday night around 6pm. People are now leaving their families early to begin their Christmas shopping.

In the beginning of the day, people are so thankful for their family, friends, and to be able to spend time with them. For many once the stores open, and the sales start, families are left in the dust for the opportunity to save a few bucks.

The true meaning of this holiday is being overlooked  due to retail stores pushing their “amazing sales.” This is a time that you are suppose to enjoy the company of one another, and be thankful that you have time to spend with them. Stop trying to rush through this holiday to get a discounted TV, and enjoy the each other.

“It’s absolutely horrible! Leaving your family on a holiday. Especially if they prepared a nice meal for you. If you really want to go shopping, go early the next morning or at midnight- not in the middle of a meal. It’s disrespectful and rude.” -said Thomas Aleo, age 52.

“I mean, if it’s to save some money, sure. You spend some time with them, isn’t that enough? Plus, you’re buying the presents FOR THEM. And you’ll see them on Christmas!” -shared TJ Aleo, age 18.
