Saint John Vianney Wins Second-Consecutive Egan Cup

Saint John Vianney (8-5-1) defeats Saint Joseph Metuchen (10-5) in the Egan Cup. 

The SJV hockey team  played Saint Joseph Metuchen at 6pm on Jan 30th in the Egan Cup Tournament. This gave the Lancers their second-consecutive Egan Cup and their fourth in the past 5 years. 

The Lancers began the game with a 1-0 lead against St. Joseph (Met.). The first goal was scored by sophomore Nick Kasich assisted by Blake Fischer and Nick Viola. Pat Haines then scores his first of three goals with 11:02 left in the first period. Blake Fischer puts the Lancers up 3-0 with the last SJV goal of the first period. Dylan Boguszewski scored St. Joseph’s first goal with 3:23 left in the first. St. Joseph’s Christian Cuccia scored on a power play goal making the score 3-2 to end the first period.

Robby Kenyon started the second period by scoring St. Joseph’s (Met.) third and final goal. Pat Haines scores with 2:50 left in the second period putting the Lancers up by one. He was assisted by seniors Dom Mazella and Mike Reed. 

To start the third period, Danny Greenhall scores the next Lancer goal with an assist by Mike Reed. Nick Kasich scores SJV’s next goal with 14:11 left in the third period. He was assisted by Nick Viola and Blake Fischer. Sophomore Anthony Matrone scores with 12:16 left in the third period assisted by Michael Rivelli and Ben Arturi. This puts the Lancers up 7-3. Captain Mike Reed scores with an assist by Danny Greenhall. Pat Haines scored the final goal, his third of the night, and was assisted by Dakota Vastola and Matt Doherty. The final score was 9-3.
