Robinson Cano Signs With Mariners; 3rd Highest Contract In History

On December 12, 2013, 5-time all-star Robinson Cano signed one of the highest contracts in MLB history with the Seattle Mariners. Cano, who spent his whole career playing for the Yankees, has been one of the best second basemenever since he entered the league. The future hall of famer is one of the Yankees’ most beloved players, but he may not be so beloved after signing with a team that’s over 3,000 miles away. Robbie has hit over .300 for the past four years and is in the prime of his career. However, Cano will have to continue his hall of fame career as a Mariner instead of a Bronx Bomber.

Robinson Cano has a very impressive resume in just nine years. So far, he is a five time all-star, won five Silver Sluggers, two Gold Glove awards, a World Series ring, and even won a Home Run Derby. Any baseball player would love to have that kind of success in their career. To make his career even more amazing, Cano isn’t even close to finished. This is going to be his tenth season, but this time, Cano will not play in pinstripes but will play in sea green and blue. He leaves the most iconic sports team ever for an organization in dire help. In 2013, the Mariners finished second to last in the AL West and haven’t made the playoffs since 2001. The former Yankee will hope to bring some of the pinstripe luck to Seattle.

So far, this MLB offseason has been quite crazy for the Bronx Bombers. Only a few weeks ago, the Yanks lost star centerfielder Curtis Granderson to the rivals across town, The New York Mets. However, they did sign outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury from the Red Sox. Not only that, they picked up form all-star Carlos Beltran and catcher Brian McCan. Besides all of these acquisitions around the league, it was Robbie Cano who made the biggest waves this offseason. He and his well-known agent Jay-Z were considering moving to the Queens and play for the Mets. But seriously, who would pass on more money? That’s what the Mariners were thinking and they offered the 3rd highest contract in the history of the MLB. Cano looks to continue his great career with the Mariners, and on opening day, all eyes will be on the Mariners game and more importantly, all eyes will be on #22.
