Knicks previous coach, Derek Fisher

Derek Fisher’s time in New York as a head coach is over. The Knicks fired Fisher in early February.

After a solid start and maintaining a .500 record, the Knicks previous few games have been atrocious, going 1-9 during the past 10 games. They were playing terribly vs. sub-.500 teams and getting demolished by decent teams. Something had to change, and Derek Fisher was it.

Kurt Rambis is now the interim coach; coincidently he is another one of Phil Jackson’s acquaintances.

So who will be the Knicks next head coach after this season is over? Top Candidates include Tom Thibodeau, Scott Brooks, Patrick Ewing, Luke Walton, and Mark Jackson.

All of these candidates have solid resumes, but which coach will fit the Knicks perfectly? If the Knicks were willing to take a risk, Patrick Ewing would be the guy, but would coaching his former team become too emotional?

Three of the four other candidates are currently unemployed (Walton is currently the assistant coach of the Warriors). Mark Jackson was also a former Knick, but has coaching experience (coached the Warriors from 2011-2014).

Scott Brooks was the coach of the Thunder, and if the Knicks were to sign him, it could lead to possibly signing Kevin Durant or Russell Westbrook in the 2016 or 2017 offseason.

Luke Walton is most likely going to stay in Golden State for a possible dynasty over the next few years, so Tom Thibodeau is the last option. The ex-Bulls coach could bring a defensive presence to a Knicks team that primarily needs a change in defensive strategy. Thibodeau can utilize Langston Galloway, Jerian Grant, and Derrick Williams, and the rest of the Knicks bench.

Who do you think will make the Knicks a competitor again?
