The 2015 MLB season came to a close on November 1st as the Kansas City Royals bested the New York Mets 4 games to 1 in the World Series.

The Royals were defeated by the San Francisco Giants in the World Series last year, so they came into the postseason looking to avenge their 2014 loss. Pitching ace, Johnny Cueto, was traded by the Cincinnati Reds in July and the Royals now had a fantastic asset to go along with their defense. This move helped the Royals to finish with 95 wins, placing first in the AL Central, a big threat when October came around.

Perhaps the most exciting team in New York as of now, the Mets brought their A-game this season and were at the top of the National League East division. The reason behind their success could be their impressive pitching staff consisting of Matt Harvey, Bartolo Colon, Noah Syndergaard, and Jacob deGrom. These players combined for 50 wins. Other players such as David Wright,Yoenis Cespedes, and Daniel Murphy played a big role in leading the Mets throughout the postseason.

When the two teams met up in the World Series, all eyes were on Daniel Murphy. Murphy was nothing short of spectacular in the postseason, as he hit a homerun in 6 straight games, a postseason record. It has been almost 30 years since the Mets have won a World Series but the Royals looked to extend that drought.

The first game went into extra innings, but the Royals ultimately won, 5-4. In Game 2, the Royals were extremely dominant and won, 7-1. Bringing the series back to New York, the Mets wanted their fans to experience a win in the World Series. The Mets showed they still had fight in them and outscored the Royals 9-3 to win.

Noah Syndergaard was scheduled to pitch in Game 4 for the Mets. He averaged a league high 97.0 MPH fastball. Unfortunately, the Royals were too much for “Thor” and won Game 4, 5-3.

In Game 5, the Mets were facing elimination. With Matt Harvey’s outstanding pitching in the first 8 innings and up 2-0, fans thought they would force a Game 6. However, a bad throw by first basemen Lucas Duda in the top of the 9th inning allowed the Royals to score 2 runs and force extra innings.

After a hard fought game, The Kansas City Royals rallied and scored 5 runs in the 12th inning to beat the Mets 7-2 and win the World Series.
